Make up products are a dime a dozen.  How do you know which ones are the best for you?

You could ask a cosmetologist to point you in the right direction, but that’s like the age-old allegory about leading a horse to water…only, you’re the horse. It’s better to know for yourself where the water is, then to depend on someone else who knows. At the Salon and Spa Galleria, we want to do both: we want to show you through the world of makeup products, while teaching you so that you can be educated for the future.

Usually when you walk into a salon or spa, you’ll be provided with make up samples. Most of the time, they’ll actually use them on your face! It’s best, when this happens, to ask as many questions as you can. The reason why is because the average make up store will try to make sure to keep you coming back for more. Once you are educated, you can walk in and buy your product instead of having them keep using makeup samples on your face.

One of the most important steps on the path to learning your way around the world of makeup is deciding on which makeup cases best fit your makeup style and your skin needs.  Personalized makeup kits traditionally contain an array of analogous colors from which you can choose when developing your visual style.

Do you like bold reds for lip color, or more subdued pinks and skin tones?  Are you a fan of dramatic purple eyeshadow, or do you want a more natural look?  These are all things to consider when shopping for make up cases and their corresponding makeup sets.  Don’t leave your beauty makeup up to chance.  Take control and know what you want!

Putting on your face is like making a sundae.  It all starts with a cream foundation.

Anyone who’s put on makeup before knows that it happens in layers.

• Foundation.  You need a good foundation if you’re going to build anything, and a pretty face is no exception.  You can either use a powder foundation or a cream foundation, but you need to put on your foundation first.  This is also a good time to use skin toner.

• Color.  This is where the magic happens.  You can use blush here, or even use concealer to cover any blemishes in the skin.  When using makeup concealer is a great addition to the overall look.

• Finishing touches.  This can be eyeshadow, volume mascara or even lip gloss.  This is the makeup equivalent of the cherry on top.
