Salon & Spa Galleria Hot Tips

Without a doubt going it alone, renting a salon suite, and being in total control of your financial future can be a daunting adventure.  It is not an adventure everyone can take, but it is an adventure which offers huge rewards for those people with “the right stuff.”

Yes, there are risks.  Leaving the comfortable, safe nest of “working for commissions” in an established beauty salon, and going independent, without a safety net, is enough to make knees turn to jelly for some . . . but you are not alone!  Salon & Spa Galleria has your back.  We are supporting  you on this venture, and that means our years of experience in salon booth rental is your secret weapon of success.

This article will get you started on that path of success. These tips will get your feet on the ground as you prepare to rent a salon suite through Salon & Spa Galleria.

1. Get a client list

This is tricky business in the salon business.  You are leaving an established operation, a place where customers have become your regulars, but technically they are the salon owner’s customers.  Are they there because of you, or are they there because of the owner of the salon? When you leave, will your regular customers follow you to your new business?
Plan on losing about 20% of your client list when you leave the beauty shop; now ask yourself if you can survive financially with that 20% loss?  If not, get busy securing a client list you can count on. Social media will help immensely with this task.

2. Estimate expenses

What are your initial costs of moving to a salon suite? What will be recurring costs?  At Salon and Spa Galleria, your largest recurring costs will be your rent and your supplies.  You will also face the cost of product if you plan on selling items from your salon spa.

Start-up costs will include equipment and whatever decorations you plan on making to your luxury salon suite.  You might also want to invest in a bookkeeping system and an appointment system of some sort.  Most other start-up costs are covered by Salon & Spa Galleria. Check out the salon suite amenities offered with our rentals.

3. Decide what you will charge

What are you going to charge your customers? The same that you charged working in the beauty salon, or will you discount that price a bit to lure customers to your new suite?  Remember that every action has a reaction; if you cut prices you are cutting income, which will make your bottom line shrink.

4. Know legal and tax obligations

It’s amazing how many people go into business without knowing the legal and tax obligations.  Due diligence at the start will avoid many headaches in the future.  We advise a quick consultation with a lawyer and a tax expert.  Ask them your questions and work out a game plan before you embark on your journey.

5. Take management classes

They are relatively inexpensive, they are easy to find, and they are well-worth your time. Check your local junior college for management classes near you.

6. Study marketing approaches

Reading a couple books on marketing will certainly not hurt you. Going to some marketing classes in your community will be a bonus. Check with the Chamber of Commerce about upcoming classes.  Again your local library and junior college will be a resource as well. We offer a marketing program for all our tenants.

7. Talk to others who have rented a salon booth

Nothing beats experience!  Talk to successful suite operators at Salon & Spa Galleria.  Our team is helpful and more than willing to pass on lessons they have learned.  Our philosophy is this: if you succeed, we all succeed. We are not competitors but rather teammates at Salon & Spa.

8. Define your own brand

Who are you? What can you do for customers that no one else can do?   You are not just a hair stylist or nail specialist or microblading professional: you are YOU, and that attitude must shine through in everything you do.

Follow these steps and you will be well on your way to success in renting a salon suite at Salon & Spa Galleria.
