How to Own a Hair Salon on a Very Tight Budget

By February 29, 2024Salon Spa Blog
Old days booth renting in a hair salon was a dead end game.

If you want to own a hair salon, if you’ve dreamed of owning a hair salon, but financing was always a problem in the past, this article will be like manna from heaven.

We are Salon & Spa Galleria, serving the Greater Fort Worth area with twenty-three salon suite rental locations.  Making dreams come true is our business. Call us at 817-917-1416 for more information and to arrange for a tour of our luxury salon suites.

A synopsis of the hair salon suite rental business.

The key to this discussion is in the word “suite.” Instead of leasing a retail storefront/location, you are only leasing a single salon suite.  In every other way this is exactly like the traditional hair salons of the past . . . only much smaller. Instead of five or six workstations being “manned” by hair stylists, in a single salon studio you may only have you, or you and one other person, working.

This is much, much less expensive, and therein lies its great appeal.  In the past, it was nearly impossible for a hair professional to open their own business without financial backing or an investor.  The hair salons of the past would cost upwards of ten-thousand dollars, oftentimes more, to simply reach Opening Day.

Not true with a hair salon suite.

How much capital will you need to be successful.

At Salon & Spa Galleria, we have seen clients who have opened for business having spent only $1000-$2000 in preparation expenses.  It all depends on the cost of the salon suite and how many secondary costs are included in that rental cost.

Remember, you have secondary expenses to account for, expenses like utilities, WiFi, decorating the suite, paying for advertising, laundry, a web page, and those secondary expenses can quickly add up and make you question whether you made the right decision or not.

The good news is that many of those secondary expenses are included in rental packages from companies like Salon & Spa Galleria. Your job, then, is to find the best rental package available in your city, so plan on doing your research, making those phone calls, and talking to multiple leasing agents.  It is your job to find the best rental package available to you.

Start small and let your talent lead the way.

This is our single most important piece of advice. Some clients take it to heart. A very few do not. We believe this to be the most important first step in entering the hair industry as a new owner.  Start small.  Keep it down to you or just you and one other stylist.  Take care of the basics first. Get comfortable in the new environment.  Make sure all cylinders are firing and concentrate on giving the best service possible to every single customer.

There will always be time to grow. There will always be to hire more stylists and there will always be time to move into a larger suite if success dictates; but first, make sure you are building your empire upon a solid foundation.

A final word about Salon & Spa Galleria.

Salon & Spa Galleria is locally owned and operated, and we believe we offer the most generous rental package in all of Fort Worth. Call us today and arrange for a tour. Talk to our leasing agent. Talk to our current clients.  You owe it to yourself to investigate the best in the area before you make your decision.
